The number of workforce in Riau Islands Province in February 2016 reached 912,904 people, an increase of 17,461 people compared to February 2015, where the number of workforce in February 2015 was 895,443 people.
The number of people working in Riau Islands Province in February 2016 reached 830,438 people, an increase of 16,011 people compared to the situation in February 2015, in February 2015 the number of people working was 814,427 people.
The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in Riau Islands Province in February 2016 reached 9.03 percent, experienced a decline in TPT when compared to TPT in February 2015, where TPT in February 2015 was 9.05 percent.
Over the past year (February 2015 ― February 2016), the number of working people decreased in several sectors, especially in the financial sector, real estate, rental business and business services sector as many as 17,583 people (38.26 percent), Industrial Sector as many as 16,502 (8.63 percent), as well as the agricultural sector as many as 12,228 people (10.32 percent). While the sector experiencing the highest increase was the Trading Sector, restaurants and accommodation services which experienced an increase in the number of working population as many as 27,799 people (17.25 percent), and the social services sector which amounted to 18,670 people (12.08 percent).
Based on the number of working hours in February 2016, 688,337 people (82.89 percent) worked above 35 hours per week, while the population worked with less than 15 hours per week working hours reaching 23,829 people (2.87 percent).
In February 2016, the population working at the elementary school level down still continued to dominate as many as 240,350 people (28.94 percent), while the population working with Diploma education were 25,149 people (3.03 percent) and residents working with University education as many as 92,937 people ( 11.19 percent).
