The workforce in Riau Islands Province in August 2015 reached 891,988 people, an increase of 13,573 people compared to August 2014, where the number of workforce in August 2014 was 878,415 people.
The number of people working in Riau Islands Province in August 2015 reached 836,670 people, an increase of 17,014 people compared to the situation in August 2014, in August 2014 the number of people who worked was 819,656 people.
The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in Riau Islands Province in August 2015 reached 6.20 percent, experiencing a decline in TPT when compared to TPT in August 2014, where TPT in August 2014 was 6.69 percent.
During the last year (August 2014 ― August 2015), the number of people working decreased in several sectors, namely in the trade sector, restaurants and accommodation services as many as 34,434 people (14.73 percent), electricity, gas and drinking water sectors as much as 904 people (24.57 percent), and the transportation, warehousing and communication sector as many as 1,370 people (2.44 percent).
While the sector that experienced the highest increase was the social, social and individual services sector with 28,714 people (20.72 percent).
Based on the number of hours worked in August 2015, a total of 717,317 people (85.73 percent) worked above 35 hours per week, while the population worked with a number of working hours of less than 15 hours per week reaching 16,953 people (2.03 percent).
In August 2015, residents working with high school / equivalent education still dominated as many as 265,733 people (31.76 percent), while residents working with Diploma education were 30,770 people (3.68 percent) and residents worked with DIV / S1 / S2 education / S3 as many as 96,499 people (11.53 percent).
